Cheerios and Chex snack mix recipe. This classic snack is perfect for a fun get-together, tailgate party, or just a delicious anytime snack.

Growing up, Chex snack mix was a special treat, but now that I’m a grown-up I realize how simple this snack mix really is to make.

I doctored it up and added my own twist of adding Cheerios, and I think it makes it even better!

I’ve also seen recipes where they add bagel chips or Cheez-its or sunflower seeds. Really, it’s up to you.

It uses whole grain cereals and nuts, so it’s a bit more healthy than many store-bought snacks and the fiber really fills you up.

I have 3 teens and we make this several times a month. It’s great as a quick grab-and-go snack or to go along with a sandwich or soup for lunch and it stores quite well. I store it in tightly-sealed gallon-size ziptop bags.

So, if you are looking for a new snack to add to your rotation, whip up a batch of this classic!

Cheerios and Chex Snack Mix

10 Minutes Prep

1 Hour 15 Minutes Total Baking Time

15 Servings

Ingredient List

  • 2 cups Cheerios cereal
  • 2 cups pretzel sticks *
  • 3 cups each Corn Chex, Rice Check, and Wheat Chex
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (I use Lea & Perrins)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt (I use Lawry’s)
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • *(You can also add a cup of mixed nuts in place of 1 cup of the pretzels)

Preparation

  1. Heat oven to 250°F.
  2. First, microwave butter in a large measuring cup until melted.
  3. Next, stir in seasonings and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Meanwhile, combine cereals and pretzels (and nuts if using) in a large bowl.
  5. Next, pour the butter mixture over the cereal mixture, tossing until evenly coated.
  6. Finally, spread the mixture out onto 1 to 2 ungreased 11×15 baking pans, so the mixture is in a single layer. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
  7. Once cool, store in an airtight container, like gallon-sized Ziploc bags.
